VIDEO: Police closed down Budapest’s emblematic Margaret Island!

Budapest’s police closed the capital’s iconic Margaret Island, a famous sports and relaxation spot for the residents this afternoon. The reason behind the drastic measure was a wild boar, which was roaming the island without a single care in the world this afternoon. Below you may read the details.

The Budapest police headquarter decided to close Margaret Island today at 4.30 pm because of a wild boar. Prior to this measure, they had received multiple reports about the animal from people. For security reasons, officers did not allow vehicles, including public transport and pedestrians enter the island. Moreover, they notified the experts of a hunting agency, telex.hu wrote.

Based on a short statement of the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK), bus line nr 26 did not operate on the island between 4 pm and 5 pm.

Below is a video made by a Telex reader depicting the boar. The animal seemed terrified, according to Dávid and his four children who were on the spot. A dog was chasing the boar, and even crows were after him. The animal did seem like it wanted to attack. Instead, he tried to hide in the bushes. Here is the video:

Police lifted the ban concerning passenger and vehicle traffic on Margaret Island at 4.45 pm. They searched the island but did not find the wild boar. According to an expert, the animal can swim well, so it probably left towards the Danube. Nevertheless, officers continue their patrols on the island.
